This is a “now” page, a concept I first noticed on my friend Akash Goswami’s site and originally borrowed from Derek Sivers. I’ll come back to this page every so often to update it with progress on my short-term projects and my longer-lived interests.

What are you currently working on?

• Currently struggling through the cold weather, but multiple people have complimented my winter fits. I yearn for the warmth of spring again.
• I interrailed across Europe to see the eclipse from Spain! I took photos with my DSLR camera, which I’m yet to publish. It was a gorgeous experience!
• I’m at Foundational as their Head of Platform Engineering, responsible for Platform and Internal Tooling. I’ve taken their engineering function from zero to one, closing an £8.2M pre-seed round. Most of my time is spent on building out the platform, recruiting from the team and refining how we work.
• I’m pursuing Chartered Engineer status with the IET.
• In my spare time, I volunteer as an organiser of codebar’s West London chapter. I help run workshops to get under-represented groups into technology.
• Working on my homelab has taken over a lot of my evenings again. I’ve moved some services onto an internal domain, reachable via my tailnet, and I’m experimenting with Hermes to organise and collate my personal context. I know I take part in a lot, so the point of this exercise is to actually see it and give myself credit for it.
• I’m writing blog posts about engineering leadership, trying to turn the lessons I’ve learned from building and working within my team into something others can use.

What have you recently accomplished?

While looking to the future is always interesting, I also find it’s important to reflect on what I’ve achieved over the past few months too!

• I went to the book launch of Drive Me to the Moon, a novel by Ramona Soo-Jun Lee.
• I’ve recently revamped my blog with a custom theme, which filters out a lot of the noise from weeknotes.
• I’ve recently finished jury service, which taught me a lot about how the justice system functions.
• I’ve finished EMF, and had a brilliant time! I’m now looking forward to eth0 and 40C3.
• Back in June, I contributed to a book with the University of Edinburgh. I worked on two chapters relating to programming in a world of AI, about how teaching programming instils systems thinking and the need for responsible AI use in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

What would you like to do in the next 12 months? (2027)

• Maintain a public CPD log throughout the year
• Get chartered with the IET
• Deliver a keynote, or give a university guest lecture
• Learn Spanish to A2 level
• Contribute to an open source project
• Apply for more technical conference talks
• Learn to solder, and do an electronics project
• Continue to learn photography as a skill

What would you like to do in the next 24 months? (2028)

• Build a human-sized model railway
• Build a music reactive LED strip, with colours from quantised album art
• Create a wallpaper pack, probably of abandoned buildings in Europe

What's down the line... at some point?

• Go back to university, and get a degree in computer science
• Write a technical book
• Perform a DJ set
• Put on an art exhibition
• Organise a conference
• Buy a house in the UK... at some point
• Live on a houseboat on a canal
• Move around the world for a bit
  • Move to Spain
  • Move to Argentina
  • Move to Ireland
• Write a course of some sort
• Deliver a conference talk in another language
